The official formula

University of Karachi BS 1st year (open merit & entry-test-based)

University of Karachi (KU) · BS 1st year morning programmes. Open-merit departments: academic percentage only. Eligibility minimums

  • test: at least 50% (Most test-based departments list MIN. TEST SCORE 50; some lower tiers (25, 35, 40) are listed with separate closing %.)

Good to know

  • Open-merit seats are split into categories K (SSC/HSC/graduation from Karachi institutions), S (Sindh excluding Karachi) and P (outside Sindh). K gets preference, then S, then P. The category system does not apply to test-based departments. For test-based departments KU publishes a minimum test score + academic closing %, not a weighted aggregate. LLB needs HEC LAT ≥ 50.
  • The academic-percentage basis (which exam's marks) is not stated in the documents read. Treat inter=100% as provisional until the prospectus appendix is checked.
  • Closing percentages are 'for guidance only' per the prospectus.
  • Admission year: Admissions-2027 (session starting 2027, applications Sep–Nov 2026).

Worked example

FSc / HSSC: 880/1100 = 80% × 100% = 80. Aggregate = 80%.
