IBCC equivalence calculator 2026: O-level and A-level to marks
Universities and medical colleges in Pakistan use your IBCC equivalence in place of Matric and Inter marks. Pick your grades to estimate it with the IBCC grade table, then carry the marks into an aggregate calculator.

Exams taken from Pakistan: 8 subjects — compulsory English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies + 3 elective academic subjects (minimum grade E). Exams taken overseas / foreign or dual nationals: 5 subjects — English, Mathematics + 3 electives (Urdu, Islamiyat, Pak Studies exempt). Science group needs Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Computer Science/IT/ICT; Biology mandatory for those going on to Medicine.

- Exams taken from Pakistan: 8 subjects — compulsory English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies + 3 elective academic subjects (minimum grade E). Exams taken overseas / foreign or dual nationals: 5 subjects — English, Mathematics + 3 electives (Urdu, Islamiyat, Pak Studies exempt). - Marks are per subject out of 100 (IBCC 'Pak. Marks'). Sum of the 8 (or 5) subjects' marks, out of 800 (or 500), is scaled by IBCC's printed formula 'Total = (obtained/800)*1100'. BUT IBCC's own printed results (844 and 846) equal scaling to 900, not 1100 — see caveats.
- F and G grades (and numeric grade 1): 'Not applicable for IBCC Equivalence'.
- Minimum passing grade E in every counted subject.
- Before June 2006 seven subjects were required (Mathematics not compulsory) — Form E-2.
- Statement of Result valid max 6 months; provisional equivalence is issued on the basis of the Statement of Results; original certificate needed afterwards (Form E-2 / Equivalence FAQs).
- Downloaded result is not acceptable for equivalence (Form E-2).
- Foreign/dual nationals exempt from Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies; nationality printed on certificate.
- A* (and grade 9) equivalent marks are fixed per subject for each exam session by IBCC notification; 2026 values in aStarBySubject2026.
- A* counted as 94 here (IBCC 2026 value for most subjects; English and Urdu are 93). Use your own session’s IBCC A* value if different.
A-level grade table
| A* | 94 |
| A | 85 |
| B | 75 |
| C | 65 |
| D | 55 |
| E | 45 |
- HSSC equivalence = O-level subjects + 3 A-level subjects. Pre-Medical: A-level Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Pre-Engineering: A-level Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Computer Science: A-level Physics, Computer, Mathematics (minimum E). OLD method (IBCC worked example, dated 2022): all 8 O-level subjects + 3 A-level = 11 subjects x 100 = 1100 (overseas: 5 + 3 = 8 subjects, out of 800, scaled to 1100). NEW method (IBCC notification 17 Feb 2026): only the 5 compulsory O-level subjects (English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies) + the 3 A-level core science subjects of the group count; O-level electives are NOT counted. Applies to students completing O-levels in session 2026 and A-levels thereafter.
- Marks per subject out of 100. Old method: sum of 11 subjects out of 1100 (Pakistan) or 8 subjects out of 800 scaled x1100/800 (overseas). New 2026 method: 5 + 3 = 8 subjects (out of 800); IBCC's notification does not print the scaling, so the total it is expressed out of under the new rule is not officially stated.
- SSC (Science Group) equivalence is a prerequisite for HSSC Pre-Medical/Pre-Engineering/Computer Science equivalence; Biology must have been studied at SSC level for HSSC Pre-Medical (Form E-2).
- Minimum grade E in each of the 3 A-level subjects.
- For A-level equivalence the IBCC O-level equivalence certificate copy + original O & A level certificates are required.
- If O-level was done abroad and A-level from Pakistan (or vice versa), Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies must be passed at O-level.
- Provisional equivalence is issued on the basis of the Statement of Results (valid max 6 months).
- From O-level session 2026 / A-levels thereafter: O-level electives excluded from HSSC equivalence marks (notification IBCC/EC-176/Imp-05/7-2/2026).
- Foreign and dual nationals remain exempt from Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies.
- A* counted as 94 here (IBCC 2026 value for most A-level subjects; Physics 95, Computer Science 93).
Sources and caveats
- IBCC's O-level worked example prints 'Total = (750/800)*1100 = 844/1100' and '(470/500)*1100 = 846/1100'. The arithmetic is wrong: 750/800 x 1100 = 1031.25, and 750/800 x 900 = 843.75 ≈ 844 (470/500 x 900 = 846). So the printed results match scaling to 900 while the formula says 1100. The official page contradicts itself, so oLevel.scaleTo is deliberately left out. Universities usually just use the percentage (93.75% here), which does not depend on the total.
- The A-level example (1030/1100) is internally consistent, and the overseas version (750/800 x 1100 = 1031) is correct.
- The worked examples (PDF created Oct 2022) use A* values (93/94/95) from an older session, not the 2026 values.
- IBCC lists one letter-grade table that covers both O and A levels. It does not print a separate A-level grade table.
- Under the Feb-2026 rule, a student who did O-levels in 2026 will have HSSC equivalence computed on 8 subjects instead of 11. Calculators should let the user choose the method by O-level session.
- A* values change every session. A student must use the A* value for the year of their own exam session (PDFs for 2021–2026 are linked on ibcc.edu.pk/?p=5225).
- Universities apply their own rules to IBCC equivalence (e.g. some use O-level-only equivalence for matric and A-level equivalence for inter). These are not IBCC rules.
